|Happy Birthday, Jesus||12/21/2007|
Jesus Christ completely changed my life as a hopeless teenage boy. When you consider the instability of my childhood, five years in a foster home, ten years moved from place to place, forced to leave home to survive, and surrounded by the most awful examples, I would have qualified easily as "least likely to ever succeed" in any aspect of life.
The wonderful Savior whose birth we celebrate totally changed my life and established a new direction. He directed me to my beautiful wife Betty, graced us with three children and now eleven grandchildren. We rejoice because they all not only know Jesus, but love Him. It is because of Him that our family experiences life in the truest sense of the word. All of us enjoy sharing His love with people around the world.
It is sad to see so many people foolishly debating the presence of religious symbols in public and scrutinizing presidential candidates who dare express Christmas greetings. Whether or not a person believes in Jesus as Lord and Savior should not nullify the recognition of His birth and His significance to millions of people around the world. True believers in Christ tolerate the beliefs of others and expect this respect to be reciprocated.
I pray that all who believe in the living Jesus whose birth we rightfully celebrate will not allow themselves to be distracted by the foolish discussions or the merchandising of the moment, but find a moment to express our gratitude and praise for this most wonderful gift. May God deliver us from being caught up in the fray and help us continually rejoice in the true meaning of Christ's birth and its profound effect on all humanity. This child born in Bethlehem set the perfect example, laid down His own life that we might receive new life, and ascended to the right hand of the Father some day to return. When we focus on the true meaning of Christmas, we exalt His life and allow Him to draw men unto Himself.
