Rise Up, Defenders Of Freedom 06/12/2009

Iwo Jima

Freedom was not bought by cowards, nor will it be defended by cowards.

Lou Pritchett, the highly-successful, longtime VP of World Sales for Proctor and Gamble, recently wrote an alarming, open letter to President Obama. “You truly scare me,” he wrote, then outlined 20 reasons why he fears for America’s future.

I share many of his concerns, because in a few short months we have seen our country go from the sole superpower in the world to a nation in steep decline. Even so, I still believe America is great. America is not great because of her land or people. America's greatness is not in the military or materials of our country. It is not a technological or ideological greatness, but greatness in God. Our founding fathers never conceived a nation separate from God; they lived, established and promoted a nation in harmony with God.

We have a movement today to separate God from government and God from our side. That is not why America was founded. America was built on God. When America gets too intelligent for God, she has become unintelligent. When she gets too big for God, she is too big. When she divorces herself from God, she will crumble into the ash heap of history. When America forsakes the guidance of God, she is dead.

The greatest problem in our country is not alcohol or drugs. It is not climate change. It is not violence on our borders or terrorists around the world. It is not the politicians assaulting our freedoms. It is not the bureaucrats and regulators who are growing in power. All of these problems arise from a single, overarching issue: our country is ceasing to be "one nation under God."

Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner in the heat of battle. Every day he arose and looked to see if the flag was still there. Centuries later, I find myself waking every day looking to see if freedom is still here. We must not lose our freedom.

Freedom can be maintained only by the eternal vigilance which has always been its price. The Republic was not established by cowards and cowards will not preserve it. America will be the land of the free only as long as it is the home of the brave. The American government is guilty of putting a noose around our necks. It will tighten the noose until we cry out for fear of sudden death. When we cry loud enough to get their attention, they tend to release it a few notches, allowing us to breathe, but they do not take the noose from our necks. The federal government must have no noose around the necks of God's people or those who love true freedom. If we are truly “under God,” then no man on this earth can put a noose around our necks.

When Miss California, so far removed from the religious right, cannot voice her opinion on marriage without becoming an outcast in society, our freedom of speech is under assault. When churches are investigated for possibly engaging in political activity while charlatans rip off millions of Americans in Ponzi schemes, our freedom of religion is threatened. When our military veterans are labeled a terrorist threat while Muslim extremists are defended as victims of the Bush administration, freedom itself is under attack.

America is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. A democracy is rule by the majority, which is one step away from a mob. We are a republic of people’s representatives. We are ruled by a constitution of unshakeable principles. We are not a monarchy or an oligarchy, but we may soon experience anarchy. When God is not in control of the lives of people, we are one step from losing control.

I am dedicated to protecting our freedom, questioning the decisions against freedom, wrestling the foes of freedom and championing the cause of freedom. All of us who cherish the life of liberty bestowed by God Almighty must maintain freedom, object to the losses of freedom, stand against the abuses of freedom, challenge the enemies of freedom, dedicate ourselves to the noble cause of freedom, enlighten others to the principles of freedom, magnify the importance of freedom, implement ways to maintain our freedom, gain a new hold on freedom and enlist an army of defenders of freedom.

This is a call to action. When you are not on your knees in prayer for our nation, you must stand up for our freedom. We live in a precarious time. Historical decisions are being made. Abandoning our founding principles will bring devastating consequences. Yet we must not cower in fear; we must rise up in strength and conviction. America can maintain and preserve her greatness people will rise up.
